Just a few years ago it was hard to imagine that a woman over 50 was becoming a highly demanded model. Of course, there were age models before, but they were women who had spent their whole lives in the modeling business, had already stopped going on the catwalk and were in demand only by fashion magazines to show clothes for the elderly. But for sure not swimsuits and lingerie.

Perhaps Nicola Griffin was meant to make an appearance, it was just time to redefine beauty. The conversation about graceful aging and lifelong bodypositivity has been brewing for a long time.
So, what do we know about Nicola Griffin?
She joined the modeling profession at the age of 53. Her twin daughters couldn't believe for a long time that their mom had received such an offer. And when the issue of being photographed in lingerie, even the daughters' boyfriends came in full delight.

She got her first proposal by coincidence when she went to the bank for her business. A woman came up to her and asked her if she wanted to model for their shampoo. Her hair, as you can see, is really gorgeous. And Nicola agreed, although not immediately, because at that point her grown up daughters had gone off to college and she was feeling a bit lonely.

It was her daughters who eventually talked her into the experiment. At that moment, no one had any idea that their mother would become world famous.
When Nicola turned 56, the famous Sports Illustrated magazine invited her to pose in a gold swimsuit alongside young celebrity models. Never before had a sports magazine invited such an adult model, but Nicola did remarkably well. It was impossible to believe that she had never posed in such a revealing outfit before.

From then on her triumphant ascent began, and photo shoots followed one after another: D Williams lingerie, Charlotte Tilbury and Mac cosmetics, Grazia, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue magazine covers.
Were everyone excited about Nicola Griffith's career?
It would seem that everyone should have been delighted that finally a woman in her late teens has become the focus of the beauty industry. After all, modern women over 50 years old do not want to turn into old ladies, they like to look after themselves, fashion, to be active and successful. But from the very beginning, a hate wave swept over all of Nicola Griffin's endeavors. Nicola was almost 60 when she starred in a lingerie ad for a British periodical that specializes in plus-size fashion. Because she is not only age, but also not skinny, as everyone is used to in the modeling business. She no longer paid attention to the haters, because more and more women began to realize: yes, we have the right to be beautiful, no matter how old we are.

And in the interview for this photo shoot, she says: “Life definitely starts after 50.... Right now, I'm really happy. I'm going to wear what I like. I'm going to wear my hair long. The main thing is not to listen to what other people tell you.”

“No one can stop you from achieving success; you just need to set your mind to it”.
Wang Deshun became the "hottest grandpa in China" after Fashion Week in Beijing 10 years ago.

He was immediately approached to endorse longevity pills and luxury cars, despite not taking any pills or knowing how to drive.

He's simply Wang Deshun. He has a wife, two kids, and a grandson. And he looks like he just jumped out of a youth fountain.

Wang Deshun started out as a bus controller, then worked in a factory, and even did some shoe shining.

For over 20 years, he was a theatrical actor. He trained in the Stanislavski method, fully embodying the struggles and emotions of his characters. When he was in his 40s, he fainted on stage twice. A doctor diagnosed him with a vegetative disorder and advised him to stop acting.

It turned out that Wang was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. However, he decided not to leave the profession entirely. His fellow actors thought he was crazy, especially since he was so close to retirement.

Achieving great success

He seemed even crazier to them when shortly after leaving, he started volunteering at a school for the deaf. Every day he would go to school and tell stories to the students. He learned sign language and studied their facial expressions. Inspired, he began performing in pantomime. This form of art is typically seen as more comedic. But Wang's dramas were about love and hate, life and death. He called them philosophical pantomimes. Thanks to them, he soon received invitations from all over the country. For example, one of the pantomimes, titled "Life," traces the human "odyssey" from the womb to the grave.

Achieving personal success

When Wang turned 50, an exhibition of Rodin's sculptures arrived in China. Wang was struck by their beauty. It seemed that art could bring one closer to eternity. During this exhibition, he noticed something new in himself: his body wasn't so different from the bodies of the models.

When he told his wife about it, she asked, "Why not mime like a statue?" A statue? Two statues: one real and one Wang. The idea was to apply movement to stillness, so the real statue would seem alive, while the living statue (Wang Deshun) would sometimes appear motionless. These two, in their constantly changing relationship with each other, were telling a story. Wang called it "Living Sculpture."
"I became instantly obsessed with it," says Wang Deshun.
That obsession led him to the gym, the ice rink, and the pool. At 57 years old, he started training seriously to become... a Rodin statue.

In 1993, he presented his first "Living Sculpture" in Beijing. Dressed only in a fig leaf, painted bronze with oxidized green, he stood on stage beside a statue of a naked woman with outstretched arms.

What does art mean to Wang Deshun?

"Using the most ordinary means to express the most complex emotions. To show the interweaving of feelings through simple forms.

In acting, dialogues and actions were used.

In pantomime, a person cuts out words and focuses solely on action. I cut out the acting and preserved the poses on stage. I just stand there. It’s the simplest form. And when I push it to the extreme, I become a sculpture”.

The combination of all these elements allows Wang Deshun to remain youthful and in a state of constant re-evaluation.

"I am only just beginning!" — Maye Musk loves to repeat this, regardless of her age. She is now 77 years old and an absolute icon in the modeling world.
At 21, Maye became a finalist in the Miss South Africa 1969 pageant. She remains a sought-after model to this day, appearing as the face of major brands like Revlon, Clinique, James Perse, Target, and Virgin America. She has also graced the covers of Time, New York Vogue, and Elle Canada. In the fall of 2017, May became the face of the cosmetics company CoverGirl.

Maye Musk is a health and nutrition specialist. She earned a master's degree in dietetics and nutrition and published a book called "Feel Fantastic". She's also given numerous lectures and helped thousands of women.

Maye Musk (born Haldeman) was born in Canada, but she spent her childhood and youth in Pretoria, South Africa, where her family, the Haldemans, moved in 1950. They had five children altogether.
"I’ve been surrounded by favorable conditions since I was born. I had wonderful parents who provided me with a solid education and were very liberal in their views. I resemble my pretty mom in looks, and I inherited my height from my handsome dad.

In 1970, I married Errol Mask, a South African engineer I met back in high school. We had three children together. But after nine years, our marriage ended. "Persistence bordering on stubbornness," is how I’d say I described my ex-husband many years later.

After the divorce, I wasn’t in the best spirits. I gained 18 pounds in a year. Now I call that weight gain a priceless experience because I learned how tough it can be to lose weight. It definitely helped me adjust my approach as a dietitian. Besides, I became one of the first popular plus-size models at 32. Still, I chose to return to my previous weight".
Later, Maye Musk moved to Canada with her children, where she had to start many things from scratch. "There's a saying, 'By 21, you're no longer an orphan.' It means you're responsible for your own life. The harder you work, the easier it is for luck to find you. My kids know how much I’ve worked. Maybe that's why they became workaholics themselves," Maye says now. "Leading by example is the best example."

The most important achievement for Maye Musk, as she herself believes, is her children. Her youngest son, Kimbal, owns a chain of restaurants called The Kitchen; her daughter, Tosca, is a Hollywood director and producer; and her second son, Elon, is the founder of SpaceX and X.com. Maye calls Elon and Kimbal the main men in her life; moreover, she’s not just a mother of three but also a grandmother to ten grandchildren.

Having crossed the age of 50, Maye became more in demand than she was in her youth. She also says in her lectures that there's no need to be ashamed of aging. She doesn’t color her hair, and her gray hair suits her. "Silver" has become a trend, and even those who are not yet fully gray are starting to imitate it. She first posed nude for the cover of Time when she was over 60 years old.

Despite her toned physique and ease, Maye Musk admits she's not a big sports fan (unlike her twin sister Kaye), but workouts are still an essential part of her life — Maye takes her dog for walks four times a day.
“I spend my time doing what I enjoy, including talking about healthy living at the school where my grandchildren go. I have fun, celebrate my birthdays happily, and I am at peace with my age. I like to have fun… And I would prefer my gravestone to read: ‘She had a good time!’ rather than ‘She was beautiful!’”
Maye Musk is very interested in social media. She tries her hand at being a creative photographer. Her work can be seen on Instagram. Additionally, May organizes fashion photoshoots and creates catalogs of branded products. By the way, she shares her views on life in her book “The Woman makes a Plan”.

“This is the happiest time in my life,” Maye Musk says in an interview, and we have no reason not to believe her.
